Press Release: Vermeer Receives Two Small Business Innovation Research Phase II Awards from US Air Force

Vermeer will enable an entirely new era of visualization and command and control on the battlefield.

NEW YORK, NY – Vermeer, a NYC based company that builds an augmented reality and artificial intelligence enabled mission planning tool, announces the award of two Direct to Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts by the United States Air Force through the AFWERX innovation program.

These Phase II contracts will allow Vermeer to enhance and integrate its capabilities in support of cutting edge autonomy, and image processing techniques for the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).

Vermeer is the first AR + AI enabled tool of it’s kind that allows an operator to easily, through the use of intuitive gestures and visualization, manipulate robotic systems, such as drones, in the field, as well as visualize sensory data in a purely synthetic environment.

“We are thrilled to bring a more intuitive and sophisticated solution to the warfighter for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions,” said Brian Streem, Vermeer’s CEO. “We only introduced this product in the last 5 months, so getting not one, but two SBIR contracts this quickly shows the incredible value and demand our product has within the DoD to eliminate friction while working with robotic systems.”

While the Air Force is funding the integration for DoD, Vermeer’s current technology in Apple’s iOS store enables enterprise customers to previsualize drone missions in a virtual space.“We are excited to have the opportunity to pursue this dual-use case and partner with leading commercial companies and now the USAF,” added Streem. “We see tremendous growth potential in both – and we are just beginning.”
